"And above all, to do no harm"
Hello! It's an honor to meet you. Welcome to my website, I hope you make yourself at home.
The purpose of this very first post is to introduce you to myself, my works, my mission and to point you towards things I think you'll enjoy.
Without further ado...
Who Am I?
My name is Bradley Werrell. I'm a physician (D.O.), entrepreneur and creator on a mission to help doctors and the public create a healthier world and more affordable healthcare.
I am the creator of WELLSPRING and the BEST MEDICINE Podcast, with far more projects on the way.
I am a lover of wisdom, of history, of living an upstanding life, of pursuing excellence, family (being a father and husband is an honor only superseded by what follows), and a Christian.
By profession I am a doctor. As such, I have taken an oath - maybe you've heard of it! It's called the Hippocratic Oath, and it was first uttered by Hippocrates, the most famous Greek healer, and the founder of the discipline we call "Medicine." Every healer who worked for Hippocrates was to say it, and every doctor now must vow to live by the spirit of this law.
The part everybody has heard, "Do No Harm," is the part that is first and foremost to me. We are not in my doctor's office, and the writings/podcasts found on this site are NOT Medical Advice, nor are they to be taken as such.
That being as it may, I still believe that the spirit of the Hippocratic Oath is to apply to all of my works. My first promise to you, dearest reader, dearest friend, is to do no harm. Everything we do effects other human beings, and everything that effects us is part of our health. Therefor, in every action I take, I intend that it does no harm.
I shall leave the Hippocratic Oath in it's entirety at the bottom of this post.
BEST MEDICINE Podcast
I'm the host of the BEST MEDICINE Podcast, which you can find on this site, and on all major social media @bradleywerrell -- BEST MEDICINE is a weekly exploration of how we might create a new paradigm of health, for ourselves and families, but also for our society. All too often the questions of health don't start until a patient winds up in front of a practitioner. But questions of human health and happiness can be asked as we plan cities, design products, go about our careers, draft policy, and act as citizens. Each week, I dive in deep with experts from different industries to pull out the best ideas about how we may heal and strengthen our selves and our world.
Join me on my journey to build this public thing, a compendium of knowledge from history, philosophy, literature, science, and my own life experiences. Hopefully our minds, bodies, hearts and souls may all grow healthier and more virtuous. I hope to enjoy a good laugh or two along the way, of course.

The Hippocratic Oath:
I swear by Apollo the physician, and Asclepius, and Hygieia and Panacea and all the gods and goddesses as my witnesses, that, according to my ability and judgement, I will keep this Oath and this contract:
To hold him who taught me this art equally dear to me as my parents, to be a partner in life with him, and to fulfill his needs when required; to look upon his offspring as equals to my own siblings, and to teach them this art, if they shall wish to learn it, without fee or contract; and that by the set rules, lectures, and every other mode of instruction, I will impart a knowledge of the art to my own sons, and those of my teachers, and to students bound by this contract and having sworn this Oath to the law of medicine, but to no others.
I will use those dietary regimens which will benefit my patients according to my greatest ability and judgement, and I will do no harm or injustice to them.
I will not give a lethal drug to anyone if I am asked, nor will I advise such a plan; and similarly I will not give a woman a pessary to cause an abortion.
In purity and according to divine law will I carry out my life and my art.
I will not use the knife, even upon those suffering from stones, but I will leave this to those who are trained in this craft.
Into whatever homes I go, I will enter them for the benefit of the sick, avoiding any voluntary act of impropriety or corruption, including the seduction of women or men, whether they are free men or slaves.
Whatever I see or hear in the lives of my patients, whether in connection with my professional practice or not, which ought not to be spoken of outside, I will keep secret, as considering all such things to be private.
So long as I maintain this Oath faithfully and without corruption, may it be granted to me to partake of life fully and the practice of my art, gaining the respect of all men for all time. However, should I transgress this Oath and violate it, may the opposite be my fate.
